The Brief

The Ruby Awards is an annual event recognising the best of South Australia’s arts and culture sector.

The brief was to provide a wow-factor for the awards evening, using the same set-up from the previous year but providing a new concept to give the event a fresh feel.

Solution

Haycom provided a turnkey solution, assisting with creative design and technical planning through to onsite execution. We worked with event producers, Ginger Ninja Events to develop a concept and deliver a technical solution. Our technical solution for the event consisted of an impressive 30 x 9ft projection screen placed in the center part of the room. Allowing the 300+ audience great views of the content and award winners.

Our offering also included the use of DMX winches along with white orbs, creating a hero installation feature. The orbs were theatrically presented to move up and down from the ceiling to add a big reveal moment and a sense of drama.

The awards were held in beautiful heritage building, The Queens Theatre. The theatre is the oldest purpose-built theatre on mainland Australia. This presented a challenge for us in terms of the weight loading and rigging points to hang the hero feature. We came up with a solution by designing a lightweight rigging system that allowed the orbs to hang freely and move without any issues.

Outcome

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet were blown away with what an event can look like. The event was reinvented. We added a feature that had never really been seen in Adelaide before and we received amazing feedback. The reaction from the attendees of the event was incredible.

We came in on budget, met the brief and produced an incredibly successful event.
